Position Overview & Specifications
Job Purpose
This is a fixed term Clinical Lectureship tenable in the School of Infection & Immunity, University of Glasgow. Suitable applicants will hold MRCP or equivalent and will have completed general professional training in Medicine. Applications will be accepted from those who already hold a research degree or who intend to undertake a period of research leading to a PhD or MD.
The successful candidate will be appointed at the appropriate level of Specialty Trainee and will enter the West of Scotland Higher Training Programme in Infectious Diseases. Applicants must already have a national training number in Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine at the time of taking up the post.
The post will be based within the School of Infection & Immunity within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS) of the University of Glasgow. Whilst clinical training will be a major focus of the Lectureship in order to ensure the appointee can successfully complete their certificate of completion of training (CCT), this post will also provide an exceptional opportunity for combined academic training.
Clinical training will focus on all aspects of infectious diseases, with the potential to develop sub speciality expertise. It is anticipated that clinical training will take place within the main University hospital sites – predominantly at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. However, as required for training, periods of clinical training may also be undertaken in other West of Scotland Centres.
Research training will be undertaken in the world-class academic environment of the University of Glasgow with excellent interdisciplinary opportunities, including translational science and experimental medicine. For this Lectureship, the School is particularly keen to develop further capacity in our areas of Internationally recognised research excellence, for example in bacteriology, and in our dedicated research centres of virology ( the Centre for Virus Research), and parasitology (the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Parasitology). However, applicants who have other research interests that align with College and School strategy are still encouraged to apply.
The academic aim of the lectureship would be to allow research development either to support intermediate fellowship applications for those who already hold a research degree, or to allow preparation for fellowship support to study for a PhD or MD.
